Jay-z ties Elvis, Acquires the ‘Artful Dodger’ Brand, and packs the House of Blues

There is so much going on in the world of Jay-Z and Rocafella I need to condense it into one post. Here is what happened yesterday:

  • Accodring to Billboard.com Jay-Z will tie Elvis this week when his album debuts at #1 (he is in the lead this week) on Tuesday. His 10th #1 debut will be second only to the Beatles who have 19 albums which debuted at #1. That is a VERY exclusive group to be in. Haters please step away from the throne.
  • CNNmoney.com announced today that Scion LLC, a joint venture with Iconix Brand Group, Inc. and Jay-Z, acquired the Artful Dodger brand from Sovereign State, LLC. for $15 million cash. Artful Dodger is an exclusive, high-end apparel brand sold in boutiques and specialty stores such as Harvey Nichols in the UK and at specialty stores and boutiques in the United State. Mr Carter said this about the acquisition:

“Artful Dodger is an incredible brand with a lot of room for growth and Scott Langton is a visionary designer. They represent what’s next and new in fashion and we are glad to have both the brand and Scott as a part of our family. Artful Dodger represents the first of many acquisitions that will begin to shape our joint venture with Iconix.”

  • Last night was the first stop of the ‘American Gangster Tour’ at the House of Blues in Los Angeles. The small venue and lack of tickets created a frenzy at the door according to MTV.com. Jay had many special guests including Beans, Free, Bleek, Diddy, and JD and the crowd was a who’s who of Hollywood stars. Jay will be making his way back across the country to culminate his tour on Sunday with me at Hammerstein Ballroom. I have a feeling that show is going to be one to remember. Maybe he will say something about the most recent Jim Jones/Dame Dash drama? Stay tunes to Digital Streets for your exclusive.
