Murs – Yesterday & Today

November 27, 2007

Murs is one of the greatest of the unknown.  He is definitely  known amongst the true Hip Hop heads and people on the left coast.  Murs 3:16 9th Addition (as in 9th Wonder) and Felt 2 are two of my favorite  underground albums of all time.  I caught him on stage with Slug (of Atmosphere) performing as the group Felt this summer during the Rock the Bells Tour.  He was great live as well.  He is the full package.  Please recognize…

Wu Tang – 8 Diagrams D/L & Review

November 25, 2007

MORE INFO HERE Ok, I’ll admit I was one of the many skeptics of Wu Tang’s 8 Diagrams based on what I have heard leaking on the internet. Songs like Take It Back, Rushing Elephants, Unpredictable, and Watch Your Mouth were nothing more than underwhelming and My Heart Gently Weeps was more of a movie soundtrack song than a leading Wu Tang Clan single. However, after giving the album a listen from cover to cover I was much more pleased. All I was looking for was a few bangers to bump in my car and a better sonic experience than Iron Flag, and I got it. Thank God. Perhaps the bickering between the group members has saved the album from being BAD to being NOT SO BAD W/ SOME JOINTS. I was immediately drawn to Gun Will Go, Campfire, Windmill, and Stick Me For My Riches. The lyrics are consistently Wu throughout the album and the beats are consistently Rza throughout the album (the new Rza NOT grimey 36 Chambers Rza). But overall half of the albums tracks were barely good enough for a mixtape and the rest were good enough to be second tier songs on a great album. True Wu heads will like the album but non Wu heads will not support it like their second LP Forever. All in all Wu has fallen short of their potential but still managed to provide their fans with more joints for the catalog.Wanna see for yourself, well I gotchu: Wu Tang Clan – 8 DiagramsBonus: Rza speaks on Wu beef and album again (video)

Busta Ryhmes – Step Up (Produced by J Dilla)

November 23, 2007

Busta Rhymes – Step Up (Produced by J Dilla) For More Info and songs Click Here This is off the Busta Rhymes/Mick Boogie Mixtape called Dillagence which is coming out exclusively online on Tuesday. This mixtape will feature only J Dilla beats that were made exclusively for Busta Rhymes. These beats are brand new never heard before which is both awesome and strange. It’s awesome because we will have a whole slew of new Dilla beats. It is strange because Busta Rhymes and J Dilla are certainly an odd couple. Here is what Busta and Mick Boogie had to say about the project:

“When Mick brought this concept to the table, I felt the timing was right. Dilla left so much incredible music behind with me personally,” says Busta Rhymes. “It’s almost like he knew I was a vessel for him, and would be able to continue to champion his movement.”“When I called Busta with this idea, he was so excited,” said Mick Boogie. “One day I woke up and my in-box was flooded with songs and songs of crazy Busta/Dilla material. I’m honored to be a part of this project.”

Once again it is a shame that Dilla’s star continues to rise after his untimely death last year.I think I like the song, but I still think it’s a bit odd. What do you think?

And Finally… Some “Detox”, some Shady, and more “Up In Smoke”

November 21, 2007

Rumors are flying around about Aftermath releasing 5 albums in 2008 including Dr. Dre’s long awaited (“he might release it/he might not”) Detox, a new album from Eminem, Busta Rhymes, Sat Quo and Bishop Lamont. June 3rd is a date they are considering for Detox, however being that its this far out who knows what it could be.

In addition to the albums being released rumor also has it that there will be another Up In Smoke Tour featuring Dre, Snoop, Eminem, Ice Cube, Bishop Lamont, and more.

well hot damn..

Jay-Z to Release A Capella version “American Gangster”

November 20, 2007

Here we go again… In a brilliant marketing move about 4 years ago Hov dropped the A Capella to The Black Album and increased the album’s longevity about an extra year and a half.  Once again remixers all over the globe will be able to translate Jay-Z’s brilliant lyrics onto beats that communicate with people from their hood.  Plus people will actually listen to the lyrics.

The album will be released on his and another notable street legend, A’s, birthday, December 4th.  I’ll remix one for you buddy…
