Suge Knight and 3 LAPD officers named in B.I.G. Wrongful Death Suit

November 27, 2007

I can’t write this much better so I will simply repost it.  Thank God they aren’t letting it go.  Fuck the Police…

U.S. District Court Judge Florence-Marie Cooper ruled Monday that Detectives Stanley Nalywaiko, Stewart Maislin and Steven Katz could all be added as defendants in the wrongful-death civil suit filed by the family of Christopher “Notorious B.I.G.” Wallace. The current suit was filed in April of 2007 after a similar suit ended in a mistrial in 2005. In her 2005 ruling (available HERE), Judge Cooper noted that the officers were partially to blame for the suit ending in a mistrial due to a lack of evidence.

“In their capacity as supervisors in the Risk Management Group, [Nalywaiko, Katz and Maislin] failed to supervise or directly participated in the concealment of evidence in this case,” Judge Cooper stated in her ruling. The ruling comes after former Death Row Records Executive Marion “Suge” Knight was added as a defendant on Nov. 19.

The 2005 mistrial marked a turn in the case, which had previously turned up very few leads, despite an 18-month F.B.I. investigation. While very little progress has been made in the case since Wallace was killed in 1997, the family’s attorney, Perry R. Sanders Jr. remained optimistic.

Judge Cooper’s ruling today gives the family a chance to prove to the world that police were involved in the murder–and that high officials have covered up for those officers,” said Sanders via a written statement. While Judge Cooper’s 11-page ruling also gave the family the option to add other defendants and file separate suits against them, it was primarily made to hold the L.A.P.D. responsible as a collective for “facilitating crime and then covering it up.”

Nas’ Controversial Album Pushed Back to February

November 26, 2007

Nas’ controversial album Nigger is now dropping during Black History Month.  I wonder what genius marketing mind came up with that plot.  Many black community leaders like the Rev. Al Sharpton have already been outspoken against the album title.  I cannot imagine the backlash there will be now. We all know any publicity is good publicity.

According to MTV he was supposed to drop the album next month but he is still working out his track listing and the album will be expected in February.  A snippet of a song called What It Is was leaked over the net last week but Nas said the song is a fake and he “never rhymed to that beat.” Apparently someone got a hold of his vocals and had some fun with them.  We can expect the first single from Nas in January.  MTV also said Atlanta’s DJ Toomp (T.I., Ludacris) and longtime Nas collaborator Salaam Remi have already contributed tracks, in addition to a slew of new producers. Diddy and his new Hitmen are also scheduled to come on board before production closes in the next week or so.

LL needs help – 50 to the rescue

November 26, 2007

LL Cool J spoke with MTV today about his new album Exit 13:

“It’s an incredible feeling” said Cool J, who proclaims this is the best album he’s done in almost a decade. “And you know what? I have to give 50 props for that. If a guy calls you on the phone and says, ‘You know what? Your last record was kinda slow and this was a little weak.’ It was like, ‘Yo, I just thought the record was slow, man, don’t mess my LL up.’ It’s great. One of the most important things in making records, you can’t think you know everything in music. I’m humble. I’m confident, but I’m humble.

“I don’t mind having a conversation with a guy who seems to have his finger on the pulse and having a conversation with him and talking with him and seeing if he can push me a little bit and get my mojo back,” he added. “I didn’t feel I fell off, but I felt I was a little bit out of touch with the things I should be thinking about. I needed to get a little more focused and close to my people and closer to the street.

“It’s more honest,” he continued. “We haven’t worked together for months now, but [50] helped me set the fun. I got loose, I’ve been really just in the lab, but he helped me set the tone. I had fun getting loose again. It was competitive, ’cause we made records together, records that may or may not make the album. All types of hidden records. He pushed me. Now my vertical is back and I can dunk on all of them. I’mma dunk on them so crazy.”

Wait so now you’re saying you shitty album sales are not Jay-Z’s fault? LL hasn’t had a respectable hit since Ill Bomb back in 99′. We’ll see if Curtis can add “Magician” to his long resume.

Jackson 5 will go on tour WITH Michael

November 26, 2007

I know this is primarily a Hip Hop Blog but anything Michael Jackson is involved in is definitely blogworthy (is it too late to Trade Mark that word?), especially when he hasn’t been on tour in over a decade.  This is what Jermaine had to say:

“Michael will be involved,” the singer and guitarist confirmed. “We feel we have to do it one more time. We owe that to the fans and to the public.”

“There’s been so much going on, getting over all the hurdles that we all were faced with during Michael’s trial,” Jermaine said. “But we are stronger than ever.”

Jermaine said the band was “in the studio at the moment.”

Wait, in the studio means they are recording another album?  Wow.  I got turned off by Michael Jackson over the past 10 years but Off The Wall and his Greatest Hits are still in my heavy rotation.  I am excited mainly out of curiosity.  What in the hell will a Jackson 5 album with a bunch of 40 and 50 year old washed up dudes  sound like?  Even better, what are they going to look like on stage?  This is either going to be really great or really bad, nothing in between.  Stay tuned….

Tell Em Why you Mad Porta!

November 23, 2007

Okay I have a few bones to pick.

First off, fuck everyone for not buying Freeway’s Free At Last. I hear it is expected to move ONLY 35,000 copies this week. Free At Last is one of the best hip hop albums of the year. It is definitely better than 50 Cent’s album, and it sells as much as Hurricane Chris? WTF people? It’s a shame that most ignorant hip hop fans (which is most) will not buy an album if it didn’t move units its first week which is absolutely ridiculous. That means Freeway is pretty much assed out. This makes me agree with Saigon when he says that the music industry just isn’t worth it. Even Tony Yayo in his great wisdom figured it out. Good music falls on deaf ears while we complain about how wack Hip Hop is. If we supported good artists then maybe the industry wouldn’t be so wack. Maybe Freeway will do numbers internationally.

sorry Free.. I’m trying…

Talib and Common too… sorry guys.

Jay, if you wouldn’t have made your boss happy (yes even he has a boss) and not taken your album off Itunes then you may have kept your numbers up. a good percentage of record sales are digital these days. His numbers are nothing to sneeze at, but he is the God MC and should do better.

Speaking of King Hov, I am very very disappointed in the MSN broadcast of his concert at the Hammerstein Ballroom in NYC. First off they cut the best part of the show out! Lil Wayne and Jay-Z were on stage TOGETHER performing and Weezy even called Jay “the best rapper alive” in front of Jay’s beloved hometown crowd which is usually the moniker he uses for himself.

Then, they DID NOT edit out Jadakiss’ embarrassing introduction to Rocafella when Jadakiss attempted to do an impromptu performance and Green Lantern didn’t have any of Jada’s songs to play. All in all the concert looked like shit online and it was great live. I know because I was there.

Go learns yourself something people, and keep on The Digital Streets if you give a shit about music….

Okay I’m done… Sorry for the foul language Mom.

“Beautiful Girls” buys Iced Out Crayons?

November 23, 2007

I had to post this ridiculously absurd piece of jewelery that Sean Kingston, the “Genius” behind everyones favorite radio hit Beautiful Girls, has been sporting around town. Personally I think he should have bought an iced out McDonalds French Fry box. Now that would have been worth the tens of thousands of dollars I am sure this cost.

Now you know where your ringtone cash goes….  I feel sad inside…

Busta Ryhmes – Step Up (Produced by J Dilla)

November 23, 2007

Busta Rhymes – Step Up (Produced by J Dilla) For More Info and songs Click Here This is off the Busta Rhymes/Mick Boogie Mixtape called Dillagence which is coming out exclusively online on Tuesday. This mixtape will feature only J Dilla beats that were made exclusively for Busta Rhymes. These beats are brand new never heard before which is both awesome and strange. It’s awesome because we will have a whole slew of new Dilla beats. It is strange because Busta Rhymes and J Dilla are certainly an odd couple. Here is what Busta and Mick Boogie had to say about the project:

“When Mick brought this concept to the table, I felt the timing was right. Dilla left so much incredible music behind with me personally,” says Busta Rhymes. “It’s almost like he knew I was a vessel for him, and would be able to continue to champion his movement.”“When I called Busta with this idea, he was so excited,” said Mick Boogie. “One day I woke up and my in-box was flooded with songs and songs of crazy Busta/Dilla material. I’m honored to be a part of this project.”

Once again it is a shame that Dilla’s star continues to rise after his untimely death last year.I think I like the song, but I still think it’s a bit odd. What do you think?

50 Cent sends his condolences to Kanye West

November 22, 2007

50 spoke to the Associated Press yesterday and had this to say about his record sales rival Kanye West.

“That’s really an unfortunate situation and I hope he can work his way through it,” 50 Cent said Tuesday (Nov. 20). “It’s good to see him actually touring: You can work your way back into a comfortable space where you can deal with those situations.”

“I was telling him, ‘You need to go back and do what you need to do,’ and he thought maybe I was a little insensitive,” 50 Cent revealed. “But I can definitely understand how that’s a huge loss, and how that would be, and then (Kanye’s) relationship with his mom had a lot more depth to it than a lot of people’s. He was real close to his mom.”

“He’s a talented artist. I actually sat with him during the creation of Curtis while he was creating his new album,” the rapper told the AP. “I never viewed him as an actual enemy; what I was trying to do is build a competition.”

Here is what Saigon had to say on his Myspace Blog last night:

“I QUIT…….. You see I got into rap a very very long time ago, I didnt do it to become rich, I didnt do it to become famous, I did it because it was a way for me to vent about the bad things that were happening around me, It was therapy for me so to speak…..

Here we go again… In a brilliant marketing move about 4 years ago Hov dropped the A Capella to The Black Album and increased the album’s longevity about an extra year and a half.  Once again remixers all over the globe will be able to translate Jay-Z’s brilliant lyrics onto beats that communicate with people from their hood.  Plus people will actually listen to the lyrics.

The album will be released on his and another notable street legend, A’s, birthday, December 4th.  I’ll remix one for you buddy…
